Kirk Penland
With more than 40 years of experience in benefits consulting, Kirk Penland is considered an industry leader in the design and administration of nonqualified executive benefit programs. He is also a frequent speaker at many industry functions.
Kirk has helped multiple organizations become some of the nation’s top providers in the design, implementation and administration of employee and executive benefit plans.
Prior to starting Coast 2 Coast Consulting, Kirk was the Senior Vice President in charge of Executive Benefit Solutions with Voya Financial upon the acquisition of his company, Pen-Cal, in 2018. He was able to bring an unbiased approach to the design, implementation and administration of executive benefits programs for public and private corporations. With innovative technology, which was created in-house, he had the ability to manage the most sophisticated executive benefit programs.
During his time at Pen-Cal, Kirk joined the firm as vice president of Executive Benefits in 1985 where he was asked to expand and develop Pen-Cal’s Executive Benefits capabilities. In 1992, Kirk negotiated a marketing and sales agreement with several of the nations largest banks and brokerage firms which significantly changed the scope of the business.
Kirk was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2005 and was responsible for the daily operations of the firm. Under Kirk’s leadership, Pen-Cal was consistently recognized as one of the top 10 NQDC providers in the country by Plan Sponsor magazine.
Born and raised in the California Bay Area, Kirk spends his time with his wife, Kari, three children and four grandchildren. They split their time between the West Coast of California and the West Coast of Florida.
